Site: small wind farm in Germany; the client assumes distinctly higher wake losses than calculated in the original assessment report
Procedure: profound analysis of SCADA data, adapted model calculations
the met station data used in the wind assessment report turned out to be less appropiate for the site, which is influenced by very local effects, thus the wind rose of the met station is less representative
the frequency distribution of the wind speed of the met station data is also not representative for the site
thrust coefficients of the power curve of the wind turbines are too low as has often been observed by aj for this specific turbines manufacturer
very low turbulence at the site, i.e. the calculated wake losses are too low
Final result: wake losses more than doubled compared to the original calculations
Together with the company AQSystem, aj attended the Solar Show MENA 2020, which took place from 8 to 10 December. aj participated actively with two talks and two panel discussions. Together with a virtual booth, aj was thus able to network in a market where aj has been active in for many years.

In September 2019, aj develops a methodology to calibrate the wind flow calculation. This allows for adapting the local wind shear and the horizontal variation of the wind resource simultaneously. Thus, comparison turbines of very different placements and hub heights can be incorporated and uncertainties can be reduced significantly.

Oldershausen, 15 May 2018: A new study of aj shows that the wind resource of the years around 1990 cannot be considered as very exceptional any more. Consequently, these years must be included in the long term reference period, if the result should be balanced. Download of the report Wind D NAO-Index E 15.05.2018 aj
